Viking Village isn't a row of cabins with numbers on the doors. It's a village, and it's built to be shared. The barrels give you your own space and your own spa, while the Great Hall, the cooking areas and the axe throwing range are where everyone comes together.
Set amongst native rainforest with the Kaiata ranges rising behind, it's the kind of place where you arrive as guests and leave having met everyone.
The Great Hall
The Great Hall is the heart of the village. It's where meals get eaten, cards get played, plans get made and the day's stories get told.
Gather your group around the table, or share it with fellow travellers and find out where everyone's headed next. On a wet West Coast evening, there's nowhere better to be.
Axe Throwing
Every stay at Viking Village includes axe throwing, at no extra cost. Line up, take aim, and settle once and for all who among your group is the true warrior.
It's harder than it looks, more satisfying than you'd expect, and it's become the thing guests talk about long after they've gone home.
Outdoor Spas
Every barrel has its own outdoor spa, and they don't need booking — they're ready when you are. Sink in after a day on the tracks and watch the light move across the Kaiata ranges.
Come nightfall, with no city glow anywhere near, the stars over the village are something else entirely.
Outdoor Cooking & Dining
Cooking here happens outdoors. Fire up the BBQ, pull up a chair at the outdoor dining areas, and eat with the bush all around you.
Freyja has its own private BBQ and dining space, and there are shared cooking and eating areas for everyone else. Bring your supplies from Greymouth, ten minutes down the road, and cook the West Coast way.
The Rainforest Setting
The village sits in native rainforest at Kaiata, with the mountains behind and the West Coast in every direction. Wake to birdsong, walk out into green, and remember what quiet actually sounds like.
Facilities
Bathrooms are in a separate shared block, a short walk from the barrels. There are no kitchens in the barrels — all cooking is done outdoors.
